Panchayat

A panchayat is an association of elected representatives to administer the affairs of panchayat raj institutions. For a gram panchayat, it is the main committee that implements the decisions of the gram sabha and conducts day-to-day administration. The main components of the panchayat are: President : Head of the panchayat. Presides over the meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the panchayat. Vice President: Performs duties in the absence of the President. Ward Members: People's representatives elected from each ward of the panchayat. Standing Committees: Formed to facilitate decisions of the Panchayat, finance, development, welfare, health education etc.
